Dry creek beds are drainage systems that are designed to carry surface water from one area to another.  Dry creek beds (aka dry river beds) stay dry the majority of the time however fill up with water when it rains and directs that rain water away from homes and other valuables.

Dry creek beds are composed of a ditch, drainage rock and filter fabric and should be installed in areas that are subject to moving surface water when it rains.  This moving surface water drains into the dry creek bed where the water is rerouted by the ditch to a more appropriate exit location.  The ditch should be dug deep and wide enough to handle the amount of water expected during very heavy rainfalls and should be pitched correctly so water moves in the direction you want it to.

The rock in dry creek beds help slow the moving surface water down reducing soil erosion.  The rock also helps prevent the ditch from caving in on itself increasing the life of the river bed.   Dry creek beds are ideal drainage solutions for areas that have water running down hills towards homes.

There are many suitable types of rock available for the construction of dry creek beds.  We leave the choice of drainage rock up to our customers preference due to the large amount of rock varieties and price differences. A common stone choice is river rack.  This rounded rock comes in many different sizes and has an great astetic look producing a dry creek bed that is both productive and beautiful at the same time

Grass swales are shallow ditches that are physically lower than the surrounding area and are designed to carry surface water from one area to another.  Swales are usually covered in grass and they blend in with the surrounding yard.  Generally swales are installed in yard areas that see infrequent surface water during storms (storm water is usually only seen during very heavy rains).

Grass swales are very common in and around yards and neighborhoods.  They are often found between homes and in other areas where they collect and direct surface water to  streets, catch basins, v-ditches, streams etc.

Many times our company is called in to install a new swale where there was none before.  Other times we are asked to widen or deepen a swale so that it can hold a larger volume of water.  We also will redefine swales that are collapsing due to erosion, trees , flower beds, etc disrupting the swales ability to carry and direct water and leading to water ponding.
